The Mirror Crack'd

The English village of St. Mary Mead is disrupted by a Hollywood production shooting a historical drama about Mary, Queen of Scots. Its star, Marina Gregg, attracts both admiration and resentment, not least from a rival actress. During a reception held in the visitors' honour, a local woman dies after drinking a cocktail that appears to have been meant for Marina. Inspector Craddock of Scotland Yard takes charge of the case and turns to his aunt, Miss Marple, whose understanding of village life helps uncover the truth. The film is based on an Agatha Christie novel.

Guy Hamilton directed this adaptation, the eleventh of the thirteen films he directed in chronological order, following Force 10 from Navarone and preceding Evil Under the Sun. Angela Lansbury plays Miss Marple, with Rock Hudson and Tony Curtis among a large credited cast that also includes Geraldine Chaplin, Edward Fox and Kim Novak. The screenplay is by Jonathan Hales and Barry Sandler, and the producers are John Brabourne and Richard Goodwin.

Made in the United Kingdom, the film runs 105 minutes and belongs to the crime, mystery and thriller genres. It took about 11 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.2 out of 10 from 11,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.1 out of 10 from 264 votes. A critics' rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 22 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
