The Lonely Island Presents: The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience is a half-hour comedy conceived as a visual rap album. It centres on Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire, the Oakland Athletics sluggers known in the late 1980s as the Bash Brothers, and places them in that era through a run of rap songs and sketches rather than a conventional plot. Andy Samberg plays Canseco and Akiva Schaffer plays McGwire, while Jorma Taccone appears in several roles. The comedy trio The Lonely Island wrote the screenplay with Schaffer, and the cast also includes Hannah Simone, Jenny Slate and Sterling K. Brown.

Schaffer directed the film with Mike Diva. It followed his earlier features Hot Rod, The Watch, An SNL Valentine and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, and it came before Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers and The Naked Gun. The production was handled by The Lonely Island and Lord Danger, with 26 credited cast members and 76 credited crew members.
