Set in cattle country, Ramrod centers on Connie Dickason, who loses her fiancé to a long-running feud between cattlemen and sheepmen but gains his ranch. She decides to run it herself, standing against Frank Ivey, the powerful figure who dominates the valley and whom her father, Ben, once wanted her to marry. Connie brings in Dave Nash, a recovering alcoholic, as her foreman and hires a crew drawn from Ivey's enemies. Ivey answers with violence and destruction, while Dave tries to oppose him through legal means, a position his own associates do not share. Connie's insistence that she does not need guns as a woman is tested as the conflict escalates.
André de Toth directed this 1947 Western, which came early in his career, before House of Wax and Crime Wave. Joel McCrea plays Dave Nash and Veronica Lake plays Connie Dickason, with Don DeFore, Donald Crisp, Preston Foster and Arleen Whelan in supporting roles. The screenplay was written by C. Graham Baker, Jack Moffitt and Cecile Kramer, and Harry Sherman produced. Released by United Artists and Enterprise Productions, the film runs 95 minutes. On IMDb it holds a 6.6 rating from around 2,100 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.5 from a much smaller number of votes.
