Nine Days

Nine Days takes place in a house set apart from ordinary reality, where a solitary man named Will spends his time watching live feeds of people living their lives on Earth. When a vacancy opens for a new life, several candidates arrive at his outpost. These candidates are unborn souls, and Will interviews and tests them to judge which one is fit to be born. Those he deems unsuitable fade into oblivion. His routine is unsettled by Emma, a free-spirited candidate who differs from the others and pushes Will to confront his own past and an existential challenge of his own.

The film is written and directed by Edson Oda, following his 2009 short The Birth. Winston Duke leads the cast as Will, with Zazie Beetz as Emma and Benedict Wong as Kyo, alongside David Rysdahl, Arianna Ortiz and Tony Hale among the twenty-nine credited performers. It was produced by Datari Turner, Laura Tunstall and Jason Michael Berman for 30WEST, Mandalay Pictures, MACRO and Datari Turner Productions, with a budget of about 10 million dollars. On IMDb it holds 6.8 out of 10 from roughly 14,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.8 out of 10 from 297 votes. A critics' rating of 7.7 out of 10 from 161 reviews places it somewhat higher with reviewers than with general audiences.
