Short description
Elvis tells the story of the singer's life and career through his long and difficult relationship with Colonel Tom Parker, the manager who guided him for more than twenty years. The film follows Elvis from his early days as a young performer to his rise as an international star, while also showing how Parker's control over him shaped both his success and his personal struggles. Priscilla Presley also plays a significant part in the story, and the film sets all of this against a backdrop of major cultural change in America.
Baz Luhrmann directed and co-wrote the film with Craig Pearce and Jeremy Doner, and he produced it with Catherine Martin and Patrick McCormick. It is Luhrmann's sixth directed feature, following Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, Australia and The Great Gatsby. Austin Butler plays Elvis Presley, with Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker, Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla, Helen Thomson as Gladys Presley, Richard Roxburgh as Vernon Presley and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as B.B. King.
Released in 2022, the film runs 159 minutes and was made on a budget of 85 million USD. It earned 289 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.3/10 from 260,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.4/10 from 4,024 votes. The critics' rating stands at 6.8/10 from 401 reviews, somewhat below the audience scores.
