A depressed man repeatedly attempts suicide, and after one failed attempt he begins to see ghosts. Four of them attach themselves to him and follow him everywhere. A shaman tells him that the dead can only leave on their own terms, so he must grant each spirit's final wish before they will move on. What begins as a burden becomes something else, as the ghosts push him to engage with the world he had given up on, including a nurse he meets at the hospital.
Hello Ghost is a 2010 Korean comedy-drama directed and written by Kim Yeong-tak, produced by Choi Moon-su for Next Entertainment World and Water in Tree Pictures, and running 111 minutes. Cha Tae-hyun plays Gang Sang-man, the man haunted by his own failed attempt to end his life, with Kang Ye-won as the nurse Jeong Yeon-su. The ghosts are played by Lee Moon-su, Ko Chang-seok, Jang Young-nam and Cheon Bo-geun, each representing a different kind of unfinished business.
The film met with a warm response. On IMDb it holds 7.5/10 from about 5,100 votes, and on TMDB 7.6/10 from roughly 125 votes, placing it among the better-regarded Korean comedies of its year. The mixed genre blend of comedy, drama, family and romance is reflected in the structure: broad comic scenes involving the ghosts alternate with a more serious look at depression and the reasons to keep living.
