Wild Mountain Thyme

Wild Mountain Thyme is a romantic drama set in rural Ireland, where two neighbouring farmers, Rosemary and Anthony, have known each other since childhood. Rosemary has long been in love with Anthony, but he is a shy dreamer who fails to notice her feelings and spends much of his time working alongside his father, Tony. When Tony considers selling the family farm to his American nephew Adam, Anthony is pushed to reconsider the direction of his life. The arrival of Adam from New York complicates matters further, and Rosemary is offered a reason to leave for America herself.

The film is written and directed by John Patrick Shanley, his third feature as director after Joe Versus the Volcano and Doubt, and it draws on his own stage musical Outside Mullingar. Emily Blunt plays Rosemary, Jamie Dornan plays Anthony, and Jon Hamm appears as Adam, with Christopher Walken as Tony Reilly and Dearbhla Molloy as Aoife Muldoon.

Released in December 2020, it runs 102 minutes and was produced across Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States. Audience responses were modest: on IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from around 14,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.3 out of 10 from roughly 219 votes. A film critics' rating of 4.6 out of 10 from 134 reviews places it below both audience scores.
