Samjin Company English Class

In mid-1990s South Korea, three young women who finished high school and went straight into office work sign up for a company English class, hoping the qualification will lead to promotions. Lee Ja-young, Jung Yu-na and Shim Bo-ram are junior employees at Samjin, a large corporation where their prospects are limited. Their studies bring the three together, and they soon turn their attention from exam preparation to something larger: evidence of corruption inside the company. Their investigation sets them against superiors and the corporate hierarchy that keeps them in low-level positions.

The film is a comedy-drama directed by Lee Jong-pil, his first feature, made from a screenplay by Son Mi and Hong Soo-young and produced by Park Un-kyoung. Go A-sung, Esom and Park Hye-su lead the cast as the three coworkers, supported by Cho Hyun-chul, Kim Jong-soo and Kim Won-hae among a credited cast of 35. Lee went on to direct Escape, Pavane, Project 30 and Time of Cinema in 2026, a run that followed this debut.

Released in October 2020 by Lotte Entertainment and The LAMP, the film runs 110 minutes. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.7 out of 10 from 40 votes, a small sample that indicates warm but limited audience response.
