Veronica Clarke is a seventeen-year-old high school student in Missouri with plans for an Ivy League college when she learns she is pregnant. Because minors in her state need a parent's consent for an abortion, and she knows her parents will not give it, she decides to travel to New Mexico instead. With no car and no one else to turn to, she asks Bailey, a former best friend she has since grown apart from, to drive her the long distance to the clinic.
The film is a road-trip comedy-drama adapted from the novel by Jenni Hendriks and Ted Caplan. Rachel Lee Goldenberg directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Hendriks. Haley Lu Richardson plays Veronica and Barbie Ferreira plays Bailey, with supporting turns from Giancarlo Esposito, Alex MacNicoll, Breckin Meyer and Sugar Lyn Beard. It was produced by Erik Feig, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.
The film was released in September 2020, after Goldenberg's Valley Girl and before Swiped and Stamptown. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.5 from around 11,000 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 6.8 from roughly 333 votes, indicating a modest but favorable audience response. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10 from about 50 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores.
