Hildy Good is a real estate agent in a New England coastal town, a descendant of the Salem witches who enjoys her wine and keeps her life carefully divided into separate parts. When she reconnects with Frank Getchell, an old love from her school years, the boundaries she has maintained begin to give way, and she finds herself entangled in the reckless behavior of someone close to her.
The film is a comedy-drama adapted from Ann Leary's novel. Maya Forbes and Wallace Wolodarsky directed it, and both wrote the screenplay with Thomas Bezucha. For Forbes it was her third feature, after Infinitely Polar Bear in 2014 and The Polka King in 2017. Sigourney Weaver plays Hildy, with Kevin Kline as Frank, and Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, David Rasche and Rebecca Henderson among the supporting cast.
Released in September 2021, the film took in about 2 million dollars worldwide. Audiences are moderately positive: on IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from roughly 4,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.1 out of 10 from a much smaller group of 90 voters. A critics' rating of 6 out of 10 across 80 reviews places professional response in roughly the same range as the audience scores, suggesting a modest, even reception rather than a sharply divided one.
