Chico & Rita is an animated romance set largely in Cuba at the end of the 1940s. Chico is a young pianist drawn to jazz, while Rita is a singer whose voice wins over the crowds in Havana's clubs and dance halls. A shared love of music brings them together, and the two become partners on stage and in private. Their relationship, however, is pushed and pulled by ambition, separation and circumstance, carrying the pair through Havana, New York, Paris, Hollywood and Las Vegas as they try to reconcile their feelings with the lives they are chasing.
The film was released in 2010 and runs 93 minutes. It was directed by Fernando Trueba alongside Tono Errando and Javier Mariscal, with a screenplay by Trueba and Ignacio Martínez de Pisón. It sits between Belle Époque and The Queen of Spain in Trueba's directing career, and it is the first of two features he has made with Errando, followed later by They Shot the Piano Player. The voice cast includes Eman Xor Oña as Chico, Limara Meneses as Rita and Mario Guerra as Ramón. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.2 from 258 votes, while critics gave it 7.6 from 71 reviews, a slightly warmer reception than that of the general audience.
