Supernova

Sam and Tusker have been together for two decades. When Tusker is diagnosed with early-onset dementia, the couple set out across England in their old camper van to visit friends, family and places that carry meaning for them. Sam has given up his career as a concert pianist so that the two can spend more time together, and the trip is meant to be a shared experience while it is still possible. As they travel, their expectations for what lies ahead begin to diverge, and long-unspoken matters surface, putting their relationship under strain.

Supernova is a British drama written and directed by Harry Macqueen, his second feature. Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci lead the cast as Sam and Tusker, with supporting roles played by Peter MacQueen, Pippa Haywood, Nina Marlin and Ian Drysdale, among a credited cast of twenty-five. The film was produced by Emily Morgan and Tristan Goligher for BBC Film, The Bureau and Quiddity Films, and runs 94 minutes.

Released in November 2020, the film took about 3 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.9/10 from roughly 16,000 votes, and on TMDB it also stands at 6.9/10, from far fewer votes. A critics' rating of 7.7/10, drawn from 206 reviews, places professional appraisal noticeably above the audience scores.
