Short description
Based on real events from World War II, this drama follows several people in Copenhagen whose lives intersect during a tragic day in March 1945. While the British Royal Air Force targets the Gestapo headquarters to support the Danish resistance, a series of errors leads bombers to accidentally strike a nearby school. The resulting disaster causes over 120 deaths, including dozens of children.
Directed and written by Ole Bornedal, the film follows his work on The Possession and precedes Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever. The cast includes Bertram Bisgaard Enevoldsen, Ester Birch, Ella Josephine Lund Nilsson, Malena Lucia Lodahl, Fanny Leander Bornedal, and Alex Høgh Andersen. The production was handled by Miso Film in Denmark.

- In the final months of World War II in Europe, the British Air Force carried out Operation Carthage, which involved an air raid on Copenhagen and a pinpoint bombing of Gestapo headquarters in the city center. The raid destroyed the main Gestapo archive, which contained information about members of the Resistance, but one aircraft from the first wave, flying at low altitude (the entire raid consisted of three waves of attacking aircraft), struck an obstacle and crashed near a Catholic school. Pilots from the second and third waves mistakenly took the smoke rising from the crash site for smoke rising from the original target of the raid, so another ten or so aircraft expended their ammunition of high-explosive and incendiary bombs on the school building, completely destroying it and killing the children inside.
