Roseanna's Grave

Marcello runs a trattoria in a small Italian village, and his wife Roseanna is seriously ill with a heart condition. Her one wish is to be buried beside their daughter, who died years earlier, in the local cemetery. The problem is that the graveyard has almost no room left, and the owner of the adjoining land refuses to sell. Since the priest keeps no reservations, Marcello takes matters into his own hands: he begins watching over the health and safety of everyone in town, determined that no one else should die before his wife's place is secure. Roseanna, meanwhile, quietly makes plans for the life Marcello will lead without her.

The film was directed by Paul Weiland, arriving between City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold and Made of Honor in his filmography, from a screenplay by Saul Turteltaub. Jean Reno plays Marcello and Mercedes Ruehl plays Roseanna, with Polly Walker, Mark Frankel, Trevor Peacock and Fay Ripley in supporting roles. It is a comedy-drama with romantic elements, made as an Italian-American co-production.
