The Worst Person in the World

The Worst Person in the World follows Julie, a young woman in Oslo approaching thirty whose life refuses to settle into a fixed shape. She drifts between studies and jobs, moving from medicine toward psychology and then toward writing and photography, while her relationship with Aksel, a successful comic artist some years older, presses her toward commitments she cannot fully accept. A chance encounter with Eivind, a man her own age, pulls her toward a different possibility, and she is left weighing what she has already chosen against what she might still become.

Joachim Trier directed the film, his fifth feature, and wrote the screenplay with Eskil Vogt; it followed Thelma and preceded Sentimental Value. Renate Reinsve plays Julie, with Anders Danielsen Lie as Aksel, Herbert Nordrum as Eivind, Hans Olav Brenner, Helene Bjørnebye and Vidar Sandem in supporting roles. Made for about 5 million dollars, it returned roughly 13 million worldwide.

On IMDb it holds 7.7/10 from 125,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.4/10 from about 2,000 votes. A critics' rating of 8.8/10 from 251 reviews places it noticeably above both audience scores.
