Space Travelers

Three childhood friends who grew up together in an orphanage try to rob a bank so they can fulfil a dream of reaching a tropical island. Their plan falls apart when staff and a guard lock themselves inside the vault and police outside notice the armed men, leaving the would-be robbers trapped in the bank with a large group of customers and staff held inside. The film blends crime and comedy with fantasy and action elements, following how the standoff turns into something far stranger than a robbery.

Katsuyuki Motohiro directed, working from a screenplay by Yoshikazu Okada, with Hirotsugu Usui, Masatake Kondo and Toru Horibe producing. It was released in April 2000 and followed the director's 1998 film Bayside Shakedown; several features came later in his career, including Shaolin Girl, PSYCHO-PASS: The Movie, Ajin: Demi-Human, Laughing Under the Clouds and the two Muroi Shinji films, with Bayside Shakedown N.E.W. arriving in 2026. The cast is led by Takeshi Kaneshiro, Eri Fukatsu, Masanobu Ando, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Masatoshi Hamada and Ken Watanabe.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.7 from 538 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from 14 votes. The two audiences differ in size and in verdict, with the larger IMDb sample landing somewhat higher than the small TMDB group.
