Curtains

Curtains is a 1983 Canadian horror thriller about an aging actress, Samantha Sherwood, who is committed to a psychiatric hospital by the director Jonathan Stryker so that she can research a role as a mentally disturbed woman. While she is institutionalized, Stryker auditions a group of younger actresses for the same part at his secluded mansion. Samantha eventually escapes and makes her way to the house, where the gathered women begin to be killed one by one by a masked figure.

The film was directed by Richard Ciupka from a screenplay by William Gray, and produced by Peter R. Simpson. John Vernon plays Stryker and Samantha Eggar plays Sherwood, with Linda Thorson, Anne Ditchburn, Lynne Griffin and Sandee Currie among the actresses assembled at the mansion. It was made for about four million dollars and runs eighty-nine minutes.

Released in March 1983, the film drew limited attention at the time and later became a title sought out by genre enthusiasts. On IMDb it holds a 5.5 rating from roughly 6,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.3 from about 145 votes. A smaller group of critics rated it 6.4, somewhat higher than the general audience scores.
