Short description
Mark is a quick-witted teenager who lives the same day over and over, and he has made his peace with it. That changes when he meets Margaret, who is stuck in the same repeating day. The two recognize each other as fellow captives and begin spending their endless time together, hunting down the small, easily overlooked moments that make the day worth living. Their partnership turns into something closer, and the question of whether the loop can be broken, and whether they want it broken, starts to matter.
Ian Samuels directed the film, his second feature after Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, from a screenplay by Lev Grossman. Kyle Allen and Kathryn Newton play Mark and Margaret, with Jermaine Harris, Anna Mikami, Josh Hamilton and Cleo Fraser in supporting roles. Aaron Ryder, Akiva Goldsman and Gregory Lessans produced the American production for Amazon Studios and Weed Road Pictures, among others.
The film runs 99 minutes and was released in February 2021. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.8 from roughly 33,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.1 from around 900 votes, a narrower and more favorable sample. A critics' rating of 6.6 from 76 reviews places it close to the audience scores, suggesting a modest but generally agreeable reception rather than a sharply divided one.
What's left behind the scenes
- One of the t-shirts worn by Mark (played by Kyle Allen) depicts a pig in a suit. This is a reference to Terry Gilliam’s science fiction comedy “Time Bandits” (1981), where one of the characters, played by Mike Edmonds, transforms into a half-man, half-pig creature.
- In the scene where Mark and his sister Emma (played by Cleo Fraser) perform a musical piece, the sheet music on the stand is upside down.
