Invincible

Invincible tells the story of Zishe Breitbart, a Jewish blacksmith from Poland whose extraordinary physical strength brings him to Berlin in the early 1930s. There a talent agent takes him to the city and Hanussen, a hypnotist and self-styled clairvoyant who runs a variety theatre, hires him as a stage attraction. In Hanussen's show Zishe performs as Siegfried, the heroic figure of Germanic myth, embodying the very ideal his audience worships. As antisemitism grows in the German capital and the political climate hardens, Zishe is troubled by dreams and turns to a local rabbi. He comes to believe his strength is a divine gift meant to warn his people of the danger closing in around them, which sets him on a collision with the role he has been given to play.

Werner Herzog directed, wrote and produced the film, his eleventh of twenty-two features in chronological order, following My Best Fiend and preceding Grizzly Man. Tim Roth plays Hanussen, the showman who predicts Hitler's rise while dreaming of an official ministry of the occult, and Finnish strongman Jouko Ahola plays Zishe. Udo Kier, Anna Gourari, Max Raabe and Gustav Peter Wöhler appear in supporting roles.

Invincible received mixed notices: critics rated it 5.9 out of 10 across 51 reviews, slightly below the 6.4 out of 10 it holds on IMDb from around 4,700 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.2 out of 10 from 61 votes.
