Strange Occasion is an Italian comedy consisting of three independent stories. The first follows an Italian immigrant in Holland who sells chestnuts but finds financial success through his physical attributes in adult shows, a secret he keeps from his spouse. The second involves a middle-aged architect who hosts the daughter of an old friend while his own family is away. The third takes place during a holiday siesta, where a priest and a young woman become trapped together in an elevator in an empty building.
The film was produced by Rizzoli Film and was released in 1976. It features contributions from three directors: Nanni Loy, Luigi Magni, and Luigi Comencini. For Loy, this project followed Il marito and preceded My Friends Act III. Magni directed this after The Conspirators and before Farewell to Enrico Berlinguer. Comencini directed this film after Misunderstood and before Miracle of Marcellino. The cast includes Nino Manfredi, Stefania Sandrelli, Alberto Sordi, and Paolo Villaggio. The screenplay was written by Leonardo Benvenuti, Piero De Bernardi, and Rodolfo Sonego.
Audience reception is mixed, with a rating of 6.2/10 on IMDb based on 574 votes and a lower score of 5.6/10 on TMDB from 27 votes.
