Meet the Spartans

Meet the Spartans is a comedy that parodies the 2006 film 300. Leonidas, played by Sean Maguire, leads a small band of Spartans against the invading Persian army of King Xerxes. The Persian ranks are filled with figures from contemporary pop culture, and the film builds its humour from spoofing then-current films, celebrities and television. Carmen Electra plays Queen Margo, Ken Davitian plays Xerxes, and the cast includes Travis Van Winkle, Kevin Sorbo and Diedrich Bader. The film was directed and written by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, who also produced it with Peter Safran.

It was the second film Friedberg and Seltzer directed together, following Date Movie and Epic Movie, and it came before Disaster Movie the same year. It was released in January 2008 and runs 84 minutes. Made for a budget of 30 million US dollars, it took about 86 million US dollars worldwide, a return well above its cost.

Audience response was poor: on IMDb it holds 2.8 out of 10 from around 115,000 votes, and on TMDB 4.1 out of 10 from roughly 1,900 votes. A critics' rating of 2.4 out of 10 from 48 reviews places it below even those audience scores.
