Troll

An explosion in the Norwegian mountains wakes a creature from a long slumber: a troll out of the country's folklore, now heading toward populated areas and leaving destruction along its way. The authorities turn to Nora Tidemann, a paleontologist, to work out what the creature is and how it might be stopped. Her father, Tobias, knows the old stories better than anyone, while officials including the prime minister and the defence minister press for a decisive response. The conflict sets a small group of researchers against a threat that the state's normal means cannot handle, and against the question of whether the troll can be stopped at all.

Roar Uthaug directed the film, which followed Tomb Raider (2018) and came before Troll 2 (2025) in his filmography; Espen Aukan wrote the screenplay, and Espen Horn and Kristian Strand Sinkerud produced it for Motion Blur. Ine Marie Wilmann plays Nora, with Kim S. Falck-Jørgensen and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen among the supporting cast, alongside Gard B. Eidsvold, Anneke von der Lippe and Fridtjov Såheim. It runs 104 minutes.

Response to the Norwegian production was mixed but broadly favourable: a critics' rating of 6.6/10 from 29 reviews sits close to the 6.6/10 on TMDB, while the 5.8/10 on IMDb from roughly 58,000 votes is lower. The pattern suggests that viewers who sought it out in large numbers on the streaming service were more divided than reviewers, and it was popular enough to be continued with a sequel.
