Seventeen-year-old Katie Gibbs attends a performing arts academy and dreams of a career as a singer, but her home life is dominated by her stepmother Gail and her stepsiblings, who push her around and threaten to send her away. At school she falls for Luke, the son of a record producer and a new arrival at the academy, and hopes her voice will draw his attention. Her stepsister Beverly, who has no talent of her own, takes credit for Katie's singing, with the result that Luke is drawn to the wrong girl. Katie has to stand up for her ambitions and her feelings before the school's winter talent show, where the deception risks being exposed.
This is the fourth entry in the A Cinderella Story series of loosely connected teen films. Damon Santostefano directed it, following his earlier work on Another Cinderella Story, and it sits between Bring It On Again and Best Player in his filmography. Erik Patterson and Jessica Scott wrote the screenplay, and Dylan Sellers produced. Lucy Hale plays Katie, with Freddie Stroma as Luke, Missi Pyle as Gail, Megan Park as Beverly, Matt Lintz as Victor and Jessalyn Wanlim as Angela, among a credited cast of 32.
Released in 2011, the film runs 88 minutes. It holds a rating of 5.9 out of 10 on IMDb from around 14,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.4 from roughly 1,060 votes, a smaller and somewhat more favourable sample.
