Seeking Justice follows Will Gerard, a high school teacher whose settled life is shattered when his wife Laura is violently attacked. With the perpetrator still at large, Will meets a stranger named Simon at the hospital, who offers to track down and kill the attacker through a secret vigilante organization. Will accepts, but the arrangement carries a price: he must later return the favor, drawing both himself and Laura into danger as he learns how far the group reaches.
Roger Donaldson directed the film, the thirteenth of the fifteen features listed for him in chronological order, arriving between The Bank Job and The November Man. Robert Tannen wrote the screenplay, and Tobey Maguire, James D. Stern and Ram Bergman produced. Nicolas Cage plays Will, with January Jones as Laura and Guy Pearce as Simon. Harold Perrineau, Jennifer Carpenter and Xander Berkeley appear in supporting roles, among a credited cast of forty-three and a crew of fifty-four. The film was released on September 2, 2011, and runs 105 minutes.
Made for 17 million dollars, the production returned about 14 million worldwide, meaning it did not recover its budget at the box office. Its ratings are modest across the board: 6.1 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 49,000 votes, and 5.9 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller tally of 1,129. A critics' rating of 4.6 out of 10 from 78 reviews places professional response below even the middling audience scores.
