The Last Manhunt

Set in 1909, as the old West is fading, The Last Manhunt follows Willie Boy, a young Chemehuevi man, and Carlota, the daughter of a local tribal leader who disapproves of their relationship. A fatal confrontation between Willie Boy and Carlota's father forces the couple to flee into the Mojave Desert. With President Taft due to visit the area, the local sheriff assembles a armed group and two Native trackers to pursue them across the harsh terrain, turning the escape into a large-scale manhunt. The story draws on real events from the early twentieth century.

The film is directed by Christian Camargo from a screenplay by Thomas Pa'a Sibbett, and produced by Martin Kistler and Eric Laciste through On the Roam. Martin Sensmeier and Mainei Kinimaka lead as Willie Boy and Carlotta, with Jason Momoa, Zahn McClarnon, Lily Gladstone and Raoul Max Trujillo among the supporting cast.

Released in November 2022, the film runs 103 minutes and blends western, crime, drama and romance elements. It opened to weak notices: critics' reviews average 4.6 out of 10 across ten write-ups, a low figure, while audiences are slightly warmer on TMDB at 5.8 from a modest number of votes. On IMDb the rating stands at 4.4 from around 1,600 votes, indicating a larger but similarly unenthusiastic viewer response.
