The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan follows a young Gascon noble who travels to Paris hoping to join the king's musketeers. After he is nearly killed trying to rescue a woman from being abducted, he arrives in the city determined to track down the attackers. His search brings him into contact with Athos, Porthos and Aramis, three musketeers of the king, and draws him into a conflict that reaches the highest levels of the French court, where Cardinal Richelieu and the scheming Milady de Winter are at work. He also falls for Constance, a confidante of the queen. The film is the first half of a two-part adaptation of Alexandre Dumas's novel, with the second part released later the same year.
Martin Bourboulon directed, working from a screenplay by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière. It was Bourboulon's fourth feature, following Daddy or Mommy and Eiffel. François Civil plays D'Artagnan, with Vincent Cassel, Romain Duris and Pio Marmaï as the musketeers, Eva Green as Milady and Louis Garrel as Louis XIII. The production, mounted across several European countries, cost about 28 million USD and returned roughly 32 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.7/10 from over 14,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.9/10 from more than 1,400 votes. A critics' rating of 7.5/10 from 44 reviews sits above both audience scores.
