Friends with Kids

Friends with Kids centres on Julie and Jason, longtime friends living in the same Manhattan building who have watched their married friends become parents and struggle with the strain of family life. Both single and wary of that chaos, they decide to have a child together while keeping their romantic lives separate, splitting the responsibilities of parenthood as friends rather than as a couple. The arrangement appears to work at first, but it is tested once Jason becomes involved with a younger woman and Julie begins seeing a divorced businessman, stirring feelings neither of them had planned for.

Jennifer Westfeldt directed the film from her own screenplay and also stars as Julie, with Adam Scott as Jason. The supporting cast includes Jon Hamm, Maya Rudolph, Chris O'Dowd and Kristen Wiig. It was produced by Joshua Astrachan, Jake Kasdan and Lucy Barzun Donnelly, and was Westfeldt's second turn as director after 2001's Kissing Jessica Stein.

Released in March 2012, the film had a budget of about 10 million dollars and took roughly 13 million worldwide. Its critics' rating of 6.5/10 from 150 reviews sits above its audience scores of 6.1/10 on IMDb and 5.9/10 on TMDB, indicating that reviewers responded somewhat more warmly than general viewers.
