Lola Williams is a teenager navigating high school in a Chicago suburb, where friendships, romances and misunderstandings with parents shape her daily life. Her mother, Anne, is divorced and struggling to connect with a daughter who seems to live in a different world. When Anne reads Lola's private journal, the gap between them becomes impossible to ignore. This is a story about a generation growing up online, and about a mother trying to understand her child before a school trip to Paris takes Lola further away.

This American remake of the 2009 French film of the same name is directed by Lisa Azuelos, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kamir Aïnouz and directed the original. It sits between Women (1995) and Quantum Love (2014) in her filmography as her third feature as director. Miley Cyrus plays Lola, with Demi Moore as Anne, Douglas Booth as Kyle, Ashley Greene, Ashley Grace and Thomas Jane rounding out the cast.

The film was released in February 2012 and runs 97 minutes. Made for a budget of 11 million USD, it earned 6 million worldwide, a return well below its production cost. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.4 from 60,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from 2,758 votes, showing a marked difference between the two audiences.
