Short description

On their wedding day, Clara and Koldo gather with family and friends at a country estate to celebrate their marriage. During the reception, guests begin to show signs of a strange illness, and the celebration turns into a struggle for survival as the infection spreads and those affected turn violent. Separated in the confusion, the newlyweds try to find each other and escape.

The film is the third entry in the Spanish horror series that began with [REC] in 2007, and it was directed by Paco Plaza, who had co-directed the two earlier installments. It sits between [REC]² and Plaza's later solo features, with David Gallart, Paco Plaza and Luiso Berdejo credited on the screenplay. The cast is led by Leticia Dolera as Clara and Diego Martín as Koldo, with Ismael Martínez, Àlex Monner, Borja González Santaolalla and Emilio Mencheta among the supporting roles.

Released in 2012, the film had a budget of about 6 million dollars and took roughly 11 million dollars worldwide, a return that exceeded its cost without matching the performance of the earlier films. Audience response has been moderate: on IMDb and on TMDB, its rating of 5.3 out of 10 from around 1,700 votes on TMDB places it below the reception of the previous entries in the series.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Actress Leticia Dolera was born on the same day as Manuela Velasco, the protagonist of the first two films in the series. However, Dolera is six years younger.
  • Comic book artist Tony Moore, known for The Walking Dead (2010), drew the promotional poster for this film in the USA.
  • Leticia Dolera had previously played Angela Vidal, the reporter from the previous films in the series, in the parody Very Spanish Movie (2009). Producer Jaume Balagueró and director Paco Plaza also appeared in that film.
  • The film is not a sequel, but rather a parallel story to the film Rec (2007).
  • For two months prior to filming, Leticia Dolera worked out in the gym five days a week with a personal trainer to prepare for the zombie-killing scene.
  • Filming lasted for seven weeks in Barcelona.
