Shin Kamen Rider

Shin Kamen Rider centers on Takeshi Hongo, a young man with an exceptional mind who is abducted by the secret organization Shocker and transformed into a cyborg as part of its plan to create a race of superhumans. Before his mind can be wiped and his will erased, the operation is interrupted and he escapes, using his new abilities to fight back. He is joined by Ruriko Midorikawa, a defector from the same organization, and the two struggle with questions of justice and evil while Shocker sends assassins after them. Hayato Ichimonji, a second augmented fighter, becomes Kamen Rider No. 2, while Ichirō Midorikawa appears as Kamen Rider No. 0.

The film is a tokusatsu superhero production from Japan, written and directed by Hideaki Anno and produced to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Kamen Rider franchise, serving as a reworking of the original 1971 series. It is the thirteenth of the fifteen films Anno has directed in chronological order, arriving after Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time in 2021. Sosuke Ikematsu plays Hongo, with Minami Hamabe as Ruriko, Tasuku Emoto, Mirai Moriyama, Nanase Nishino and Toru Tezuka among the cast. Released in March 2023, the film took about 16 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from roughly 3,800 votes, while on TMDB it rates 7 out of 10 from a much smaller base of 315 votes.
