Short description
A member of an elite paramilitary counter-terrorism unit becomes traumatized after witnessing the suicide bombing of a young girl and is forced to undergo retraining. However, unbeknownst to him, he becomes a key player in a dispute between rival police divisions, as he finds himself increasingly involved with the sister of the girl he saw die.

What's left behind the scenes

  • A project to adapt Mamoru Oshii's manga "Legend of the Dog-Wolf" (Kenrou Densetsu), co-written with Kamui Fujiwara, had existed for a long time, dating back to the early 1990s.
  • Initially, Osii was supposed to direct the anime adaptation. It was also planned as an OAV series. However, after lengthy discussions, Bandai offered the project to Okiura. Ultimately, an arrangement was agreed upon whereby Osii would write the screenplay based on one of the manga episodes, and Okiura would direct a feature film.
  • This is Okiura's directorial debut. Previously, he worked as an animator and designer. Okiura is considered a student of Osii.
  • Literally, 'jinro' means 'wolf-man' (not a werewolf). This is a reference to the fairy tale 'Little Red Riding Hood', the plot of which is played upon in the cartoon.
  • Hiroyuki Okiura dislikes computer animation. Therefore, the film was made almost entirely using traditional animation methods.
