Not Okay

Not Okay follows Danni Sanders, an aspiring writer in New York who longs for online attention and a wider circle of friends. To boost her profile, she pretends to be in Paris, posting fabricated images of a trip she never took. When a real attack occurs in the city, her invented journey becomes entangled with the actual event, and her small deception grows into something far larger than she intended. She returns home celebrated as a survivor, forms a bond with Rowan, a young activist who has lived through real trauma, and draws the interest of Colin, a man she has long admired. The attention and purpose she wanted finally arrive, but the arrangement rests on a lie that cannot hold.

Quinn Shephard wrote and directed the film, her second feature after Blame (2018). Zoey Deutch leads as Danni, with Mia Isaac, Dylan O'Brien, Nadia Alexander, Tia Dionne Hodge and Negin Farsad among the credited cast of 42. Searchlight Pictures and Makeready produced the 103-minute comedy-drama, which was released in July 2022.

On IMDb, viewers rate it 6.1 out of 10 from around 21,000 votes, while on TMDB it holds 6.2 from roughly 529 ratings, indicating modest and mixed audience approval. A critics' score of 6.5 from 113 reviews places professional assessment slightly above the audience response, though all three measures cluster in similar territory.
