Stopmotion

Stopmotion centres on Ella Blake, a stop-motion animator working in the shadow of her mother Suzanne, a celebrated figure in the same craft. Suzanne's health fails, and Ella is left to finish a project and then to build something of her own. Moving into a new flat, she meets a young neighbour and begins a dark puppet film, but the work and her grief become tangled, and the figures she is creating seem to take on a will of their own.

The film is directed by Robert Morgan, who wrote it with Robin King and also made the 2024 short Incidental 38: Strange Action At A Distance. Aisling Franciosi plays Ella, with Stella Gonet as Suzanne, and Tom York, Therica Wilson-Read, Bridgitta Roy and Caoilinn Springall in supporting roles. It is a British and American production backed by BFI, BlueLight and IFC Films, running 94 minutes.

Released in February 2024, the film drew mixed responses from viewers, with an IMDb rating of 5.6 from around 11,000 votes and a TMDB rating of 6.1 from approximately 234 votes. Critics were notably more receptive, giving it 7.5 from 70 reviews.
