The First Time
Short description
Dave, a shy high school student, is stuck on a girl who does not see him the way he hopes, while Aubrey, who attends a different school, is involved with a boyfriend who does not understand her. The two meet by chance at a party after both step away from the crowd, and a casual conversation turns into an unexpected connection. Over the course of a single weekend, their friendship shifts into something more confusing and more romantic than either expected, affecting how they see their own lives and the people around them.
The First Time is a comedy, drama and romance directed by Jonathan Kasdan, who also wrote the screenplay. It is his second film as director, following In the Land of Women in 2007. Dylan O'Brien and Britt Robertson play Dave and Aubrey, with Craig Roberts, James Frecheville, Victoria Justice and Maggie Elizabeth Jones in supporting roles. Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer produced, and the film runs 95 minutes.
It was released in 2012 in the United States and made on a budget of 2 million dollars. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.8 from around 76,000 votes, and on TMDB it has a score of 7 from roughly 2,000 votes. A critics' rating of 5.8 from 18 reviews sits below both audience scores, indicating a more mixed response from reviewers than from viewers.
