The Life of Chuck tells the story of Charles "Chuck" Krantz, an ordinary man whose name becomes unexpectedly familiar to an entire town. His face appears on billboards and television screens, greetings bearing his name show up on banners, radio and the internet, yet almost nobody seems to know who he actually is. Around this puzzle, the wider world appears to be coming apart. The film is based on a Stephen King novella and unfolds in three connected chapters that trace Chuck's life in reverse, moving from his death at thirty-nine to his childhood in a house believed to be haunted.
Mike Flanagan directed and wrote the screenplay, and produced it with Trevor Macy. It sits between Doctor Sleep and The Exorcist: Martyrs in his filmography. Tom Hiddleston and Benjamin Pajak both play Chuck, with Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Mia Sara and Nick Offerman among the cast.
Released in 2025, the film runs 111 minutes. Made for about 25 million dollars, it returned roughly 20 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.3 from around 64,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.3 from about 1,300 votes, alongside a critics' rating of 7.5. Audience and critics' scores are closely aligned, suggesting a similar reception across both.
