Kerala Cafe is a Malayalam-language anthology drama set around a roadside railway cafe in Kerala, where ten separate stories unfold as travellers of different backgrounds pass through the station. The characters include an insurance agent, two women connected to the same man, a soldier missing his parents, Portuguese settlers who have made India their home, a journalist, and a man encountered on a bus. Their paths cross only briefly, and each segment runs roughly twelve minutes, with migration, relationships and everyday struggles linking the episodes.
The film was released in October 2009 and runs 140 minutes. It was produced by Ranjith for Backwater Media, with a screenplay credited to Ranjan Abraham, Padmakumar M and Deedi Damodaran. Ten Malayalam directors each contributed an episode: Padmakumar M, Shankar Ramakrishnan, Shaji Kailas, Anjali Menon, B. Unnikrishnan, Shyamaprasad, Anwar Rasheed, Revathi, Lal Jose, Ranjith and Uday Ananthan. For several of them it came early in their directing careers, while others already had features behind them. The large ensemble includes Dileep, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Suresh Gopi, Jayasurya, Fahadh Faasil and Mammootty, with 48 credited cast members and 72 credited crew.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.4 from around 1,200 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.7 from 23 votes. The two figures point to a modest but generally positive response, with the larger IMDb sample carrying more weight.
