Waiting for Bojangles follows Camille and Georges, an eccentric couple whose household revolves around pleasure, imagination and friends, with their favourite song, Mr Bojangles, as its soundtrack. Their young son Gary grows up inside this whirl of fantasy. When Camille goes a step too far, Georges and Gary must do whatever they can to hold the family together and keep her safe, a task that eventually takes them from Paris to a country house in Spain.
Régis Roinsard directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Romain Compingt, following his earlier features Populaire and The Translators. Virginie Efira plays Camille, Romain Duris plays Georges, Grégory Gadebois appears as Charles and Solan Machado-Graner as Gary, in a credited cast of thirty-two. The production was mounted with Belgian, American and French backing from companies including StudioCanal, Orange Studio, France 2 Cinéma and uMedia, and runs 124 minutes.
Audience responses are divided in emphasis: on IMDb the film holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 2,500 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.3 out of 10 from roughly 369 votes. The lower vote count there suggests a smaller, more favourable group of viewers compared with the wider IMDb sample.
