Short description

Ek Tha Tiger follows an Indian intelligence agent known by the codename Tiger, who is assigned to keep watch on a scientist suspected of passing sensitive technology to Pakistan. The scientist, Kidwai, once helped develop India's missile defence programme and now teaches in Dublin. While tracking him, Tiger becomes romantically involved with Zoya, the woman looking after Kidwai's household. The mission grows more complicated as evidence suggests Zoya may have ties to Pakistani intelligence, leaving Tiger torn between his duty and his feelings for her. The story moves across several countries, including Ireland, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Chile.

The film was directed by Kabir Khan, who wrote the screenplay with Neelesh Misra, and produced by Aditya Chopra for Yash Raj Films. It was the first title in Kabir Khan's directing filmography, ahead of Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Phantom, both from 2015. Salman Khan plays Tiger and Katrina Kaif plays Zoya, with Girish Karnad, Ranvir Shorey, Gavie Chahal and Roshan Seth in supporting roles.

Released in August 2012, the film had a budget of about 14 million US dollars and took roughly 63 million worldwide, a strong return on its cost. On IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 from around 42,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.2 from about 227 votes. A critics' rating of 5.9 from 16 reviews places it close to the audience scores on both sites.
