The Hanging Sun

John is a hitman on the run from the employer he used to work for. He heads north and takes shelter deep in a forest near an isolated village, where a widow named Lea and her young son, Caleb, become central to his fate. In a place shaped by strict religion and the midnight sun, John is forced to confront the violent past he has been trying to leave behind. The film is based on a novel by Jo Nesbø.

The Hanging Sun is a crime drama directed by Francesco Carrozzini, his first feature, followed by Be Brave. Stefano Bises wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Alessandro Borghi as John, Jessica Brown Findlay as Lea, Sam Spruell, Frederick Schmidt, Raphael Vicas and Charles Dance.

It was released in 2022 and runs 93 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.2 from around 1,200 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.6 from a much smaller number of votes. Both figures point to a modest reception rather than a widely admired one, with the larger IMDb sample suggesting the lower end of that range is more representative.
