The Envelope of Grief

Set in West Java, Indonesia, this drama follows an only child struggling to mourn her father. Local customs require her to organize the funeral and pay set fees to everyone involved in the process, including those who offer prayers for the dead. Despite her belief that these requirements are wrong, she faces persistent pressure from neighbors and her aunt to comply. The story centers on her internal conflict as she decides whether to uphold her principles or follow tradition to ensure her father is buried without trouble.

Written and directed by Praditha Blifa, this short film was the first of two directed works, preceding the 2025 release The Period of Her. Produced by Daniel Victory through the Jogja Film Academy and Aranck Project, the film features a cast including Yushi Fatwa as Iis, Yanthi Siregar as Uwa, Nanas as Pak Usman, and Donny Lubis as Bapak. The production was released on July 13, 2018, with a total runtime of 19 minutes.
