Short description

In the late 1950s and early '60s, artist Walter Keane achieves unbelievable fame and success with portraits of saucer-eyed waifs. However, no one realizes that his wife, Margaret, is the real painter behind the brush. Although Margaret is horrified to learn that Walter is passing off her work as his own, she is too meek to protest too loudly. It isn't until the Keanes' marriage comes to an end and a lawsuit follows that the truth finally comes to light.

The film is based on Margaret Keane's book "Big Eyes: The Strange Story of Margaret Keane".
Initially, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Reynolds were considered for the lead roles instead of Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz.
The film's screenwriters, Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander, previously worked with Tim Burton on his film "Ed Wood." Initially, Burton was only supposed to produce the new film, with the screenwriters directing, but in the spring of 2013, it was announced that Burton would also be directing.
In the scene where Walter and Margaret are drawing in the park, the real Margaret Keene is sitting on a bench in the background.
To prepare for her role, Amy Adams consulted with Margaret Keane, whom she actually portrayed, and who was around 90 years old at the time. According to Adams, Keane was thrilled to learn that a film was being made about her life.
The entire project took 11 years.
