Big Eyes

Big Eyes tells the story of Margaret Keane, an artist whose paintings of children with oversized eyes became a popular sensation in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. Struggling to gain recognition on her own, Margaret finds her circumstances transformed after she meets and marries the charismatic Walter Keane. He begins presenting her paintings as his own, arguing that work by a woman would not sell, and the pictures bring him fame and wealth while she remains in the background. As the gap between Walter's public role and the truth of who actually paints grows, Margaret's unease turns into a legal fight over authorship of the work.

Tim Burton directed the film, the nineteenth of the twenty-two features he has directed in chronological order, following Dark Shadows and preceding Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski wrote the screenplay and produced alongside Burton. Amy Adams plays Margaret and Christoph Waltz plays Walter, with Danny Huston, Jon Polito, Krysten Ritter and Jason Schwartzman in supporting roles. Made for about 10 million dollars, it took roughly 29 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.9 from around 104,000 votes and on TMDB 7 from about 3,700, while a critics' rating stands at 6.7 from 193 reviews.
