Sita Ramam is a romantic drama set around two timelines and two countries. In the present day, Afreen, a Pakistani student in London, sets fire to an Indian man's car and then returns home, hoping to ask her grandfather for the money she owes as compensation. She learns he has died, and the only thing he left her is a task: to deliver a letter written by Ram to Sita. Her search for Ram becomes a journey into the story behind that twenty-year-old letter. In the 1960s, Ram is an orphaned soldier serving in Kashmir who receives a letter from a woman named Sita, meets her, and falls in love; a letter he sends her afterwards never reaches her.
Hanu Raghavapudi directed and co-wrote the film with Raj Kumar Kandamudi, following his earlier feature LIE. It was produced by C. Ashwini Dutt and Priyanka Dutt for Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema. Dulquer Salmaan plays Lieutenant Ram and Mrunal Thakur plays Sita Mahalakshmi, with Rashmika Mandanna as Afreen. Sumanth, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Tharun Bhascker appear in supporting roles, and 29 cast members are credited in all.
Made on a budget of about 3 million US dollars, the film has an IMDb rating of 8.5 from roughly 83,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.8 from a much smaller number of votes. The audience response is thus strongly positive, with the IMDb score drawn from a far larger sample.
