Set in 1963, Rustin follows the civil rights activist Bayard Rustin as he works to organize the March on Washington. As one of the driving forces behind the event, he contends with racism and homophobia while pushing forward an undertaking that would shift the course of the movement. Colman Domingo plays Rustin, with Aml Ameen as Martin Luther King, Jr., Glynn Turman as A. Philip Randolph, Chris Rock as Roy Wilkins, Gus Halper as Tom and Johnny Ramey as Elias Taylor.
The film is directed by George C. Wolfe, working from a screenplay by Dustin Lance Black and Julian Breece. It is the fifth feature Wolfe has directed, following Nights in Rodanthe, You're Not You, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Wolfe also produced alongside Bruce Cohen and Tonia Davis. The production involved a credited cast of 88 and a crew of 229.
Released in November 2023, Rustin runs 108 minutes and is a drama rooted in American history, made in the United States by Higher Ground Productions and Bold Choices.
