Mike Lane has left his stripping days behind, but a failed business deal has wiped him out, and he is tending bar in Florida when he meets Maxandra Mendoza, a wealthy woman who makes him an offer he cannot refuse. She brings him to London to stage a show, and he finds that her plans for the production go beyond anything he expected. With a new group of dancers to train, Mike has to work out what she really wants while trying to put on a spectacle that lives up to his reputation.
Steven Soderbergh directs, with Channing Tatum returning as Mike Lane and Salma Hayek Pinault playing Maxandra. Reid Carolin wrote the screenplay, and the supporting cast includes Ayub Khan-Din, Jemelia George, Juliette Motamed and Ethan Lawrence. It is Soderbergh's thirty-first film as director in chronological order, following Kimi and preceding Presence. Tatum is also among the producers, along with Nick Wechsler and Gregory Jacobs; the production involved 82 credited cast members and 211 credited crew.
Made for a budget of 40 million dollars, the film took in about 57 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.2 out of 10 from roughly 20,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.4 out of 10 from around 611 votes. A film critics' rating of 5.5 out of 10 from 231 reviews places it slightly below the audience figure on TMDB and marginally above the IMDb score.
