This animated short follows a hen overwhelmed by her daily chores and the needs of her children. When she discovers she lacks salt to prepare a meal, she visits a neighbor, a goose, to borrow some. However, the goose agrees only if the hen performs a favor first. This simple request begins a chain of increasingly complex obligations that the hen must navigate to obtain the salt. The story serves as a satire of the barter systems and informal networks common in the Soviet Union during the late stagnation era.
Produced by Kyivnaukfilm in the Soviet Union, the film was released in 1983. It was directed by Oleksandr Viken, who later directed The Death of a Government Clerk in 1988. The screenplay was written by Alexander Kostinsky. The voice cast includes Nadiia Kondratovska, Liudmyla Tomashevska, Olena Huzeyeva, Borys Vozniuk, and Davyd Babaiev. The film has a runtime of 11 minutes.
