Short description
Blind Date is a 1987 American romantic comedy about Walter Davis, a work-obsessed executive with little time for a personal life. Asked to bring a companion to an important business dinner with a Japanese client, he is set up by his brother Ted with Nadia Gates, a charming young woman new to the city. Ted warns him that Nadia must not drink alcohol, since it affects her badly, but Walter ignores the advice, and a single glass sets off a night that spirals far beyond anything he expected. Complicating matters further is Nadia's former lover, David, who keeps turning up as the evening unravels.
The film was directed by Blake Edwards, the twenty-second of the twenty-seven features he directed in chronological order, following That's Life! and preceding Sunset. Dale Launer wrote the screenplay, and Tony Adams and Trish Caroselli produced. Kim Basinger and Bruce Willis lead the cast as Nadia and Walter, with John Larroquette, William Daniels, George Coe and Mark Blum among the twenty-nine credited performers.
Produced for roughly 18 million dollars, the film took in about 39 million worldwide, a solid return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 5.9 out of 10 from 23,797 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from 558 votes, while a critics' rating of 4.6 out of 10 from 25 reviews places it below both audience scores.

- The original screenplay was rewritten so much that the screenwriter, Dale Loner, requested that his name not be associated with the film.
- Walter is Bruce Willis’ middle name.
- Initially, Andrew Dice Clay was supposed to play the bouncer at the nightclub. He was offered the role three times, each time for an increasingly larger fee, but he consistently refused. In the 1980s, actors considered it career suicide to accept a role in films directed by Blake Edwards (1922-2010). The role of the bouncer was ultimately played by Dick Durock (1937-2009), a known fan of the genre who starred in Wes Craven’s (1939-2015) “Swamp Thing” (1981).
