Michael Newman is an architect whose career consumes nearly all of his time, leaving little room for his wife Donna and their two children. When a strange salesman named Morty gives him a universal remote, Michael finds it can control far more than his television: it lets him pause, skip and rewind his own life. At first the device seems to solve his problems, sparing him arguments and dull moments. It then begins acting on its own, using what it has learned about his habits to fast-forward through events he never chose to miss.

Frank Coraci directed the film, his fourth feature after The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy and Around the World in 80 Days. Adam Sandler plays Michael, with Kate Beckinsale as Donna, Christopher Walken as Morty and supporting turns from David Hasselhoff, Henry Winkler and Julie Kavner. Steve Koren and Mark O'Keefe wrote the screenplay and produced alongside Neal H. Moritz.

Released in June 2006, the film cost about 83 million dollars and took roughly 241 million worldwide, a solid return. On IMDb it holds 6.4 from some 385,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.3 from about 7,800. A critics' score of 4.9 from 170 reviews sits below both audience figures, so viewers have generally been warmer toward it than reviewers.
