Short description
Mick Dundee has settled into life in New York with journalist Sue Charlton, though the city still feels foreign to the Australian bushman. The couple's routine is shattered when Sue's ex-husband, a photographer, is killed by Colombian drug traffickers after he captures evidence against their boss. With Sue targeted by the gang, Mick takes her back to the Australian outback, where he can protect her on familiar ground. The criminals follow, and Mick uses his knowledge of the wilderness to turn the pursuit against them.
John Cornell directed, following the original Crocodile Dundee, and shares production duties with Jane Scott. Paul Hogan stars as Dundee and wrote the screenplay with Brett Hogan, while Linda Kozlowski returns as Sue Charlton. The supporting cast includes John Meillon, Ernie Dingo, Charles S. Dutton and Hechter Ubarry. Made for 14 million USD, the film earned about 240 million USD worldwide, a strong commercial result for an adventure comedy sequel.
Reception was more mixed. On IMDb it holds 5.7/10 from 64,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.9/10 from 1,273 votes. A critics' rating of 3.7/10 from 33 reviews sits well below those audience scores, placing the film among the less warmly received entries in the series. It runs 111 minutes.
What's left behind the scenes
- Colin Quinn played a small role in the film, which was the very beginning of his career. He later recalled that during the filming, he rewrote parts of the script and expanded his role as the protagonist's comrade, then submitted it to the director and producers. At that time, he knew practically nothing about cinema and the entertainment industry in general, and sincerely did not realize how inappropriate it all was.
