Double Team

Jack Quinn is a CIA counterterrorism specialist whose attempt to eliminate the international terrorist Stavros goes wrong. Held responsible for the operation's failure, he is sent to the Colony, a secluded facility for former agents who are declared dead to the outside world. When Stavros resurfaces and targets Quinn's family, Quinn escapes his confinement and joins forces with Yaz, an eccentric arms dealer, to track the terrorist down.

The film is directed by Tsui Hark, the seventeenth of the thirty-one features he has directed in chronological order, arriving between The Blade and Knock Off. Jean-Claude Van Damme plays Quinn, Dennis Rodman appears as Yaz, and Mickey Rourke plays Stavros, with Paul Freeman, Natacha Lindinger and Valéria Cavalli in supporting roles. The screenplay is by Don Jakoby and Paul Mones, and the production was handled by Columbia Pictures, Mandalay Entertainment and Film Workshop, among others.

Made for a budget of thirty million dollars, the film returned roughly forty-eight million worldwide, a modest result against its cost. Audience reception has been lukewarm: it holds a rating of 4.8 from around thirty-nine thousand votes on IMDb and 5.3 from several hundred votes on TMDB. A critics' rating of 3.9 from twenty reviews places professional assessment below even the subdued audience scores, suggesting broad agreement that the film falls short of its stars' earlier action work.
