Star Trek: First Contact

Star Trek: First Contact follows the crew of the USS Enterprise-E, the newly commissioned flagship, as they are ordered to stay out of a battle between Starfleet and the Borg, a collective of cybernetic beings. Captain Jean-Luc Picard disobeys those orders and takes his ship to Earth, where the Borg have set a course. After the attacking vessel is destroyed, a smaller Borg craft escapes into the past, and the Enterprise pursues it. The crew arrives in the twenty-first century, shortly before humanity's first warp flight and the first contact with an alien species that follows from it. The Borg intend to prevent that encounter and alter the future, and Picard, whose earlier encounters with the collective nearly cost him his life, must stop them while confronting his own history with the enemy.

The film is the eighth Star Trek feature and the second to center on the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation. It was directed by Jonathan Frakes, who also plays Commander William T. Riker; it was the first film he directed, ahead of Star Trek: Insurrection and several later features. Patrick Stewart leads the cast as Picard, with Brent Spiner as Data, LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forge, Michael Dorn as Worf, Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher and Frakes as Riker. Ronald D. Moore and Brannon Braga wrote the screenplay, and Rick Berman and Peter Lauritson produced.

Made for about 45 million dollars, the film took in roughly 146 million worldwide, a strong return for its budget. On IMDb it holds a 7.6 rating from around 137,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.3 from about 2,000 votes. A critics' rating of 7.6 from 67 reviews places it level with the IMDb audience score.
